Demand for new cars continues to surge

Home / News / Demand for new cars continues to surge

For the past few months, the figures have shown that the British automotive industry is very much growing. Despite going through a slump a few years ago, it has since roared back and the domestic market is now looking stronger than ever. This growth shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Data released from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reveals steady growth. 119,338 cars were produced in the UK in May alone, representing a 2.3% rise compared to last May. Though the number of cars produced is down in year-on-year figures, with a fall of 0.8% for production figures this year compared to January-May 2014, they are still strong. While the number of vehicles produced for export also fell by a small margin, just 0.2%, this is offset by a boost in domestic production of 13.3%.

Predictions suggest that, by 2017, the number of vehicles produced in the UK will rise to more than two million a year. New investments and developments continue to ensure that the strength of the automotive sector will not fade. Nissan recently announced a £37m investment in its Sunderland plant. The re-shoring of many manufacturers in the past three years has also led to a favourable environment for the production of new vehicles. Combined with strong demand for domestic produce, it’s not surprising that figures are so strong for May. It could also lead to a significant boost for the country’s economy if re-shoring continues. In fact, it is believed that production figures are down as more and more new plants prepare to re-shore and equip their plants sufficiently to begin driving forward with greater production.

As the automotive industry continues to grow, we could see a huge boost both domestically and internationally. As such, a lot of work needs to be done to ensure that this growth remains intact. We focus on providing automotive recruitment for a wide array of clients. As the industry grows, so does the need for more quality recruits to fill these positions, and we work as hard as we can to ensure that this happens.
