New IMI accreditation scheme for car sales staff

Home / News / New IMI accreditation scheme for car sales staff

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) have launched a new accreditation scheme for car sales staff in the past month, aiming to set professional standards for those in sales to coincide with their existing customer service accreditation. Many top motor manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz and Vauxhall have taken up the scheme, and it is said that a number of other car makers and dealership groups are also looking into the possibility of the new programmes. It’s expected that over the course of the next few months, more than 5,000 applications will be made for the scheme, which is available at senior sales executive and executive levels.

During the programme, employees will have to demonstrate their understanding and competence within the fields of technical knowledge, product knowledge, communication, complaints, objection handling and business processes. The higher level – senior sales executive – also requires the employee to show their competence in areas such as warranties, coaching and supervision, and workload management. Those who are successful in their accreditation will be placed onto the public IMI Professional Register, which showcases a database of over 40,000 individuals who have proven their skills, also signing up to an ethical code of conduct. This database is searchable and allows reaffirmation of completion for employers.

Steve Nash, CEO of IMI, has said that the role of a sales professional in the automotive industry is challenging and that by taking the accreditation route, you’re able to ensure that your employees are up to the professional standard. We specialise in recruiting for all types of automotive jobs, and we are able to help individuals looking to join the IMI Professional Register by providing them with membership, as well as all of the advice and guidance needed.
