The recent results of a poll by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and Hays found that the more and more businesses are looking closer at developing in-house talent. Of the 1,000 HR professionals asked 56% reported they plan to reduce their reliance on recruiters in 2017. This is up from 45% in 2016.

The poll revealed that 75% of HR professionals were planning to look in-house. This is up from 48% in 2016. Additionally, 60% are planning to focus more on retention rather than recruiting, a rise from 37%. This shows a reduction in the amount of work that is expected to be done with third parties.

Looking in-house and focusing on retention are both strategies that a number of businesses are employing to help them address skills shortages. With over six in ten employers expecting further difficulty recruiting senior and skilled professionals, the above options are becoming more popular.
