Reported Rise in Car Theft

Home / Automotive News / Reported Rise in Car Theft

It has been reported car theft figures have risen, almost as much as 30% in the past 3 years.

The Office for National Statistics suggested that in 2014, less than 70,000 cars were reported stolen, compared to around 85,000 last year.

The low figures set in 2014 were said to be attributed to manufacturer development of security measures such as engine immobilisers and keyless technology. However, in recent times car thieves have developed sophisticated measures to counter these developments.

It has been said, vehicle owners are moving back to more traditional security measures such as steering locks with a sharp rise in sales of these devices being reported by retailers in recent times.

Despite these figures, manufactures offer some solace in respect of future developments to help reverse security threats such as signal blockers and cloning devices, by investing billions in anti-theft measures.

As a specialist automotive recruiter to the industry, John Gibson Associates work with both retailers and manufactures alike. As an organisation we are often excited by developments in the market and are proud to work alongside our partners, offering recruitment solutions throughout the UK and abroad.
