A 2015 study by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) indicated that they expected the number of motor industry jobs in the UK to grow by 320,000 by the year 2030. This is an incredible figure, translating as some 410 new roles being created every week. At present the growth and performance figures from the sector give every indication that this number remains an accurate prediction, despite the many challenges and unexpected developments which have an impact on the industry.
One of the key reasons why growth has been achieved and is expected to be sustained is the diversity of the sector. It’s not the case that new recruitment opportunities are being created in one specialist area but rather across the entire industry. As with many things in the modern world, these terms started off as being used in America and then spread around the world. Blue collar and white collar jobs are the two better known, and have always been used to represent the attire normally worn by those working in specific locations. In respect of what each means, white collar jobs refer to office based ones in which the dress code is usually one shirts, whilst blue collar jobs refers to the colour of the overalls normally worn by outdoor workers.
The term pink collar workers is a relatively recent addition to this. The term is normally used to refer to those in the service industry. As excellence in services is increasingly becoming an important contributor to achieving success in the motor industry this term is coming to be used far more frequently.
