The automotive industry in the UK is definitely looking up and moving on to bigger and better things. The latest figures, released recently, further highlight the growth and the continued good news for the automotive industry. In terms of car production, the UK is now powering ahead and the surge in manufacturing is helping both the industry and the wider economy.

According to new figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, figures show a 1.9% increase in automotive production in March. The figures, released on April 23rd, show that in domestic production, 144,893 cars were built last month alone. Manufacturing output for the domestic market rose a quarter, highlighting strong demands for new cars in the UK and the continuing growth of good fortunes for the industry. These figures show that the amount of productivity in UK automobile manufacturing is at an all-time high.

Over the past five year period, 11.5 vehicles per year were produced per person employed within the industry. This is an improvement in comparison with the 2005-2009 period, which saw a production ratio of 9.3 vehicles produced per employee per year. The recently released new models have helped to boost growth, as well as a recovering European car market with a demand for British vehicles. All in all, a 24.5% increase in demand from the domestic market has helped to boost these figures and get 2015 off to a truly phenomenal start.

These figures are bound to continue growing, especially as £1bn worth of investments have been announced for three UK manufacturers. A 6% growth in UK vehicle production is expected for 2015, highlighting just how good this year could be for one of the UK’s most important industries.
